Las Injurias (2014-2024)

Las Injurias se fundó en Caracas en 2014 como un proyecto editorial para tejer diálogos entre experiencia íntima, conflicto social y prácticas artísticas. Surgió en un momento en que percibí los espacios culturales locales como opresivos, lo que me llevó a abandonar escenas establecidas y forjar un cuerpo‑libro autónomo. Mi intención siempre fue conectar con otras personas mediante un modelo de producción definido por la economía radical de recursos: procesos manuales como cortar papel, coser cuadernos o imprimir con equipos básicos, acciones que hacían tangible la escasez material del contexto.

El catálogo funciona como un archivo donde convergen discursos sobre la acción directa sobre objetos, memorias migrantes, transcripción de datos, registro de sujetos digitales y prácticas laborales injustas. Estructuralmente, el proyecto se organiza en dos ejes paralelos: una sección colaborativa, en la que artistas invitados desarrollan proposiciones, y otra personal, donde exploro mi práctica individual. Estas publicaciones —concebidas para circular de mano en mano— se transformaron en un archivo en fuga resguardado por custodios anónimos.

Aunque no planeo nuevas ediciones, actualmente me dedico a revisar e interpretar el catálogo para consolidarlo en una memoria crítica.

Las Injurias was founded in Caracas in 2014 as a publishing project to weave dialogues between intimate experience, social conflict, and artistic practices. It emerged at a time when I perceived local cultural spaces as oppressive, which led me to leave established scenes and forge an autonomous book-body. My intention was always to connect with others through a model of production defined by the radical economy of resources: manual processes such as cutting paper, sewing notebooks, or printing with basic equipment — actions that made the material scarcity of the context tangible.

The catalogue functions as an archive where discourses on direct action on objects, migrant memories, data transcription, digital subject recording, and unfair labour practices converge. Structurally, the project is organised along two parallel axes: a collaborative section, in which invited artists develop propositions, and a personal one, where I explore my individual practice. These publications —conceived to circulate hand to hand— have become a fugitive archive safeguarded by anonymous custodians.

Although I do not plan new editions, I am currently dedicated to reviewing and interpreting the catalogue to consolidate it into a critical memory.

Minerva Editions (2018–present)

Por lo general, no puedo trabajar con todos los artistas que me gustan; a veces porque han fallecido o porque son difíciles de contactar. Minerva es una editorial en la que publico bootlegs o algo intermedio, ya que no son copias exactas de otras publicaciones, pero sí ediciones realizadas sin la autorización expresa de los artistas.

Tampoco tiene un fin comercial; las regalo cuando alguien me cae bien o cuando me compran publicaciones de mis otros proyectos. Los contenidos que publico los recopilo directamente de internet. Debo mencionar que soy muy fan de UBU, así que cuando no tengo muchas cosas pendientes, suelo navegar por sus archivos para ver qué encuentro.

Minerva es un proyecto que actualmente está en pausa, pero no descarto retomarlo en el futuro.

In general, I can’t work with all the artists I admire; sometimes because they have passed away or because they are difficult to contact. Minerva is a publishing project where I release bootlegs—or something in between—since they are not exact copies of other publications, but rather editions made without the artists’ explicit authorization.

It’s also not a commercial endeavor; I give them away when I like someone or when they buy publications from my other projects. The content I publish is gathered directly from the internet. I should mention that I’m a big fan of UBU, so when I don’t have many pending tasks, I often browse their archives to see what I can find.

Minerva is currently on pause, but I don’t rule out the possibility of resuming it in the future.

Flores y Fantasmas (2013-2014)

Flores y Fantasmas comenzó en 2013 y terminó en 2014. Fue mi primer proyecto editorial, y en ese momento mis motivaciones para trabajar en él fueron una mezcla de curiosidad, deseo de independencia y ganas de crear un espacio para explorar las posibilidades del material impreso.

No tengo un registro exacto, pero luego de asistir a una charla de Manuel Borrás, de la editorial Pre-Textos, en el Centro Cultural Chacao en Caracas, pensé que si él había podido crear una editorial, yo también podría hacerlo. No lo tenía muy claro, y en esa época las redes sociales funcionaban de otra manera. Al principio, hice dos colecciones: una de poesía y otra de arte visual. El criterio con el que iba a trabajar era sencillo: publicaría a personas que me cayeran bien y cuyo trabajo me gustara. Colaboré con gente de mi entorno y con personas que no conocía en persona, pero a quienes seguía en internet, sobre todo en Tumblr y Twitter.

En los meses previos a la primera publicación, estuve trabajando como director de arte en una revista, así que esa inercia me llevó a comprar una impresora Epson Workforce K101. Escogí ese modelo porque era fácil de piratear. Compré unas resmas de papel, una grapadora y me puse a publicar. El catálogo fue pequeño: en total, nueve publicaciones, casi en partes iguales de poesía y arte visual. Además, pensé en tener un espacio expositivo en casa al que llamé Las Injurias.

Alrededor de mayo de 2014, decidí que no quería seguir con el proyecto. Mis motivaciones fueron variadas, pero todas difusas, así que, sin pensarlo demasiado, trasladé mis ideas a un nuevo proyecto que reflejara mejor mis intenciones.

Flores y Fantasmas started in 2013 and ended in 2014. It was my first publishing project, and at the time, my motivations for working on it were a mix of curiosity, a desire for independence, and the urge to create a space to explore the possibilities of printed material.

I don’t have an exact record, but after attending a talk by Manuel Borrás from the publishing house Pre-Textos at the Centro Cultural Chacao in Caracas, I thought that if he had been able to start a publishing house, I could do it too. I wasn’t entirely sure how, and social media worked differently back then. At first, I created two collections: one for poetry and another for visual art. The selection criteria were simple—I would publish people I liked and whose work I admired. I collaborated with people from my immediate circle as well as with others I didn’t know personally but followed online, mainly on Tumblr and Twitter.

In the months leading up to the first publication, I was working as an art director at a magazine, so that momentum led me to buy an Epson Workforce K101 printer. I chose that model because it was easy to hack. I bought some reams of paper, a stapler, and got to work publishing. The catalog was small: a total of nine publications, almost evenly split between poetry and visual art. Additionally, I thought about creating an exhibition space at home, which I called Las Injurias.

Around May 2014, I decided I didn’t want to continue with the project. My reasons were varied but all somewhat vague, so without overthinking it, I shifted my ideas to a new project that better reflected my intentions.
