La palabra destellos, en el título, busca personificar un brillo para vislumbrar lo invisible. Como sustantivo singular, ese destello tiene la forma de una brecha, una grieta que desvela algo oculto. Se invita así a tantear brechas, trazar senderos que ayuden a hacer vivir y vibrar el lugar. En el vacío, destellos consiste en enfocar la percepción de lo sensible para cuestionar lo evidente y sus modos de hacer. Contribuye a observar y profundizar sobre el entramado de vínculos y destellos que componen el trabajo de Alejandra Riera, así como a dialogar sobre el Jardín de las mixturas e invitar a las personas participantes que lo deseen a traer una semilla, piedra o historia que quieran aportar a este lugar.
En esta ocasión, se da a conocer esta publicación —un «diario de reflejos» de las ventanas del Jardín Sabatini del Museo Reina Sofía— elaborado a modo de manual de horarios y puntos donde mirar cuando el sol se refleja en este espacio. Esta guía se inspira en un gesto imaginado en 2017, al principio de la transformación del Jardín de las mixturas, cuando se observaron algunos suelos muy pobres y luces dirigidas hacia las plantas y árboles como si fueran objetos. En el parterre sombrío, se advirtieron varios olivos moribundos que habían sido trasladados ahí varios años antes, para construir un sendero de un evento externo al Museo. Tras finalizar el evento, los olivos fueron replantados en la sombra, sin consideración alguna. En ese contexto inicial, uno de los gestos propuestos por Riera fue sacar todas las luces y cables eléctricos de los parterres y redirigir algunos rayos de sol hacia los olivos.

The word destellos (“glimmers”) in the title seeks to personify a sparkle that allows us to glimpse the invisible. As a singular noun, that glimmer takes the form of a breach, a crack that reveals something hidden. It invites us to probe breaches, to trace paths that help bring the place to life and make it vibrate. En el vacío, destellos consists in sharpening the perception of the sensible to question the evident and its modes of making. It contributes to observing and delving into the web of bonds and flashes that compose the work of Alejandra Riera, as well as to opening dialogue on El jardín de las mixturas and inviting participants to bring a seed, stone, or story to share with this place.
On this occasion, this publication is introduced —a “diary of reflections” of the windows of the Sabatini Garden at Museo Reina Sofía— designed as a manual of times and points from which to look when the sun reflects in this space. The guide is inspired by a gesture imagined in 2017, at the beginning of the transformation of El jardín de las mixturas, when some very poor soils were observed and lights were directed at plants and trees as if they were objects. In the shadowy flowerbed, several dying olive trees were noticed, which had been relocated there years earlier for the construction of a path for an external event at the Museum. After the event, the olives were replanted in the shade without any consideration. In that initial context, one of Riera’s proposed gestures was to remove all lights and electric cables from the parterres and redirect some sunrays towards the olive trees.
